Day Moon, Night Moon

Maggie opened the door and turned to face the weak sunlight, smiling broadly as the brisk fall air raised goose bumps on her skin and the dilute sunshine slowly warmed them away. Standing quietly she picked out the different birdsongs, hearing “autumn” in the voices. It was cooler than she expected; Maggie exhaled deeply and spun around, energized by the perfection of the morning, and danced into the kitchen to grab a shawl that was lazily thrown over the back of a chair. On her way back to the door, she saw Sheba curled on the floor, basking in a pool of sunlight under the table.
“Well, I’m glad someone else is enjoying the day.” The coal black familiar cracked open an eye and flicked the very end of her tail, the barest hint of acknowledgement, before curling around to bask her other side, giving Maggie a lovely view of pink cat-behind. Maggie wrinkled her nose; she had issues with cats, but all the same she walked around the table so as not to interrupt the black cat’s sun bath. It was far too nice a day to start a minor feud.
Well, to start a feud with Sheba at least. It was the perfect day to harass someone else. A mischievous smile lit her face as she padded quietly past the door she had left ajar and down the hall to Gwen’s door. Placing her hand on the cool iron latch she held her breath and listened for a moment before easing the door open. She slipped inside and slowly made her way over to the heavily covered windows. Glancing quickly at the black-haired figure under the covers Maggie bit her lip to suppress a giggle and forcefully whipped aside the curtains. The lump under the covers shifted slightly and then sat upright, an incarnation of fury in a nightgown.
“What the? Maggie! What the hell…”
Laughing at the fury on Gwen’s face Maggie stated “It’s a beautiful day!” and threw her arms wide to embrace the world. As Gwen yelled something about no day being even vaguely acceptable before noon, Maggie sprinted across the room and managed to shut the door before several bulky objects thudded against it, followed by a stream of curses. Maggie leaned back against the door and laughed before skipping back to the kitchen to grab an apple and start her day.
